Summer Art Camp Fun Fridays:
For the past four years, Westfarms Mall and California Pizza Kitchen have partnered with the Art League to put on Fun Fridays as a part of our summer art camp. Thanks to our community sponsors, at the end of every week we have a pizza party and bring in a cultural and artisitic activity or performance for the campers, their siblings and caregivers. This past summer we had performances from The Connecticut Ballet, Carnival Trio Band and Hip Hop Dimensions, and a paper quilt making class by master quilter Ed Johnetta Miller.
ArtBeat:
Every year, The West Hartford Art League partners with the West Hartford Public Schools to exhibit student work in our two galleries on Buena Vista Road. ArtBeat showcases work from students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Conard and Hall High School Mural:
Students from Conard and Hall High Schools partnered with the Art League and Jerrys Artarama in the fall of 2008 to design and paint a mural on the side of Jerrys Artarama, as part of ArtWalks 5th Anniversary. The students worked weekends and after school on Wednesdays under the direction of art teachers Sheri Ellis from Conard High School, and Joanne Barry Dutro from Hall High School.
The mural is located at the corner of New Britain Ave, on the side of Jerrys Artarama.
ArtWalk Chalk Competition:
Open to students of all ages, we have held a chalk competion every fall for the last five years on the sidewalks of LaSalle and Arapahoe Road, during the opening reception for ArtWalk. Thank-you to our chalk partner Blick Art Materials of Plainville.
Light Up the Night:
Every year, the West Hartford Art League raises money for the West Hartford Food Bank and Foodshare through its sale of luminarias. The lumiarias are lit on the hillside as part of this fundraising event.
