Public Art

The West Hartford Art League is committed to bringing art into the community and making it accessible to all.  Art in Public Places evolved as a continuation of our popular ArtWalk program, now entering its 8th season, which places hundreds of pieces of artwalk in storefront windows in West Hartford for three weeks every fall.

In 2007, we raised funds from the community to commission a large scale sculpture by CT artist Peter Busby, the first in our program, which was later installed on our grounds on Buena Vista Road. 

In September 2008, we placed three sculptures on public land in town, by celebrated artists Tim Prentice, Charles Perry, and Karen Petersen. These were loaned to us by the artists. We currently have a sculpture by Charles Perry on South Main Street,  three bronze horse by artist Karen Petersen on Memorial Drive, and a kinetic piece by Tim Prentice on Buena Vista Road adjacent to Cornerstone Pool.

Thanks to the numerous generous donations by individuals and foundations, we have raised enough money to purchase two of the three bronze horses by sculptor Karen Petersen on Memorial Road in Blue Back Square. We are currently rasing funds to purchase the last horse.
